With over a decade of architectural design experience, Ms. Samarkina is a licensed architect in Washington State, a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and a LEED Green Associate with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
Her architectural career began in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2008. After relocating to Seattle in 2013, Elina spent several years at leading architecture firms, where she advanced to the roles of Project Architect and Associate, leading a wide range of design projects across multiple sectors. After earning her architectural license, Elina launched her own independent practice, founding Croquis Architecture PLLC, a boutique studio dedicated to thoughtful, client‑centered design.
Ms. Samarkina holds both a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Architecture from St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
Elina brings a rich blend of design and technical expertise to residential and commercial projects, with a focus on contemporary modernist aesthetics, clean detailing, and contextual sensitivity. Her approach is shaped by diverse international experience and a holistic design philosophy that blends the best of European and North American design traditions. Her work emphasizes user experience and thoughtful problem-solving, complemented by clear communication and proactive coordination with jurisdictions to ensure seamless project delivery.
As an immigrant and minority woman in architecture, Elina is passionate about advancing diversity within the profession and mentoring emerging designers. She volunteered with the ACE Mentor Program of America in 2020–2021 and is an active member of the Immigrant Architects Coalition (IAC). She is also a co-author of City Shapers Volume II: Stories of Immigrant Designers, a publication celebrating the journeys and contributions of immigrant design professionals.
